This was a part of the $480 million road improvement project constructed to speed traffic to and from Exit 13A of the New Jersey Turnpike, expand the capacity of the main entrance and exit ramps, and provide direct access to the parking lots near the passenger terminals.

1. Southern Access Roadway Project Package No. 1 - This project involved widening the Throat Bridges (inbound and outbound); milling, membrane and overlay of the Throat Bridges; adding a ramp and bridge from South Directory Road to inbound Throat Bridge; new HOV/Arrivals Frontages; widening Brewster Road; constructing sections of South Directory Road and a box culvert at Waverly Ditch.

2. Central Terminal Area (CTA) Roadways and Bridge Project - This project included the construction of a two-lane entry to CTA opening to four lanes at Terminals A and B. Work included construction of a bridge, paving and utilities, curbing, drainage, new parking and toll plazas and commercial frontages.

3. EWR Monorail NEC Connection Access Road - Construction of new roadway from Terminal area to the new monorail station.

4. Terminal “A” and “B” Retail Improvements - Also included was a $37 million program to improve restaurant and retail options at Terminals “A” and “B”. This involved building and renovating more than 130,000 square feet of dining and shopping space. Work included complete interior demolition of the existing tenant spaces including asbestos removal and reconstruction and tenant fit out for new tenants.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Jois Construction Management provided detailed Cost Estimating services for various improvements at Terminals “A” and “B” that included, elevator replacement, loading dock renovations, and various HVAC and Electrical improvements.

Jois Construction Management also provided CPM Scheduling and Project Control Support on these projects. On projects that were in the Final Design phase, Jois Construction Management developed the pre-bid construction schedule including phasing plans. During construction, Jois Construction Management was responsible for reviewing the contractor’s baseline schedule and monthly updates. Jois Construction Management reviewed these schedules for compliance with contractual requirements, work breakdown structure, realistic durations, logic of activities, construction sequencing, project critical path, and projection for completing various phases of the project.
